Crossmark policy
AI Med maintains a public record of changes to published articles and applies the Crossmark update model to those changes.
What Crossmark records
Crossmark is a Crossref service that records whether a published item has been updated. AI Med deposits an update record when a published article is corrected, formally retracted, withdrawn, or when an expression of concern is issued. The article record then shows the current status of the item rather than only its original form.
Readers should check the Crossmark status of an article before relying on it, particularly where a correction or retraction may have been published after the original date.
Update types we publish
Correction — an error that affects the accuracy of the record but not its central findings. The original article remains published and the correction is linked to it.
Expression of concern — issued while an investigation is unresolved, and replaced by a correction or a retraction when the outcome is known.
Retraction — findings are unreliable, whether through error or misconduct. The notice states the reason, is linked to the retracted article, and the article is marked as retracted.
Withdrawal — used where an article has been published and is then removed from the scholarly record at the request of the authors or by editorial decision. A withdrawal notice remains public and the DOI continues to resolve.
Who decides
Decisions on corrections, expressions of concern, retractions and withdrawals are made by the Editor-in-Chief with the editorial board, following the retraction and correction policy and the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The publisher issues the metadata update once the decision is documented.
Where updates appear
Every update is published as a notice on this site, linked from the affected article record, listed on the withdrawals and corrections page, and deposited with Crossref so that the DOI resolves to the current record.
Reporting a concern
Concerns about a published article may be sent to aimed@ai-press.org. Reports are acknowledged, assessed against the published evidence, and answered in writing.
